AS IT HAPPENED: Pumas hold on against fast-finishing Wallabies in Sydney

The Pumas have gotten revenge over a fast finishing Wallabies, winning 28-26 in front of a sellout crowd in Sydney.

The Wallabies have had several bright sparks in Filipo Daugunu and Lukhan Salakia-Loto, but several key mistakes have been well captialised on by the Pumas.

Early tries to Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii and Julian Montoya have seen the lead change hands several times, but Santiago Carreras' boot proved the difference, pushing the margin out to three converted tries.

Andrew Kellaway and Filipo Daugunu scored quickly in the second half to set up a grandstand finish.

Daugunu would get a second try on full time, but with the clock red, the Pumas were able to hold on until the death and shut down any hope of the Wallabies producing a miracle final score.

72' AUS 19 ARG 28 Pumas get a penalty for obstruction and they go to the corner, however the Wallabies shut the maul down and earn a scrum. They clear, and then win the Pumas lineout as we head towards the last five minutes.

68' AUS 19 ARG 28 Great restart and Daugunu scores in the corner. O'Connor misses but the margin is now less than ten out of nowhere.

67' AUS 14 ARG 28 The Pumas are penalised for obstruction, and Carreras is shown the cheese! The Wallabies pounce and Kellaway scores!

65' AUS 7 ARG 28 The Pumas attack again, but McReight earns a penalty. However, O'Connor doesn't get it out and the Pumas attack, then earn another penalty for offside. Carreras steps up and the visitors go further ahead.

60' AUS 7 ARG 25 Pumas go to the corner to try and kill the match off, but they can't find the knockout blow and knock it on as O'Connor comes on. The Wallabies get out of their territory, but concede another penalty for holding on.

55' AUS 7 ARG 25 Another penalty to the Pumas, another three points by Carreras. There are starting to pile up now.

50' AUS 7 ARG 22 Bell is in space, but they can't like up! Pumas clear, but the Wallabies are on the 22 and attack again, but knock it on. The Pumas look dangerous and attack, but the ball becomes unplayable.

45' AUS 7 ARG 22 Pumas get a penalty for obstruction, and Carreras doesn't waste his time. He nails the penalty and visitors go beyond a two-try margin.

40' AUS 7 ARG 19 The teams are back out on the field are we are underway. Officially confirmed, the crowd is a sellout, 41,912 - the largest crowd ever at this venue since it was rebuilt.

HALF TIME: WALLABIES 7 PUMAS 19

40' AUS 7 ARG 19 Wallabies scrum in Puma territory as we enter the final minute. Paisami breaks the line and tries to hand it off, but the Pumas clean up and clear it. That's halftime.

38' AUS 7 ARG 19 Scrum to the Wallabies on their 10m, and a Tupou misfiring pass sees Suaalii isolate himself and the Wallabies concede a penalty. Carreras steps up and extends the lead further.

35' AUS 7 ARG 16 Pumas pinch it and clear, the Wallabies try to regather but Pumas attack well, only for Slipper to take a mark! He taps to Jorgensen and clears. Pumas try to go wide again, but Isgro puts a foot in touch.

31' AUS 7 ARG 16 Wallabies try to go long, but the Pumas counterattack very well, a great chance goes begging as Carreras drops it cold! Jorgensen returns to the field. A great attacking play, and Edmed nails a 50/22!

26' AUS 7 ARG 16 Both sides have broken the line well, and the Pumas earn a penalty inside the Wallabies 22 for hands in the ruck. They point to the sticks, Carreras slots it to go further ahead.

23' AUS 7 ARG 13 Another penalty - and Jorgo is sent to the bin for a knock down! Pumas go to the corner. They attack the line, but a cross kick goes out. They attack again, but the Wallabies earn a ruck penalty and survive.

18' AUS 7 ARG 13 Wallabies get a penalty on the Pumas 22, and we have a break after Chocobares copped a Tupou knee. Back up, the Wallabies go to the corner. They attack well off the maul and hound the line, and we're going upstairs to check, and Valetini has knocked it on. Goal line drop out and we have a clanger between Edmed and White. Penalty, and the Pumas now attack.

15' AUS 7 ARG 13 Both sides threaten again, but its the Pumas who look dangerous on the right flank, before Toole is pulled up for a high tackle. The visitors kick to just outside their 22. Wallabies shut it down but are penalised for not releasing. Carreras steps up for another penalty, and nails it.

10' AUS 7 ARG 10 Pumas reclaim the restart but knock it on, and Wallabies earn a scrum free kick - but Montoya attempts a charge down, and scores! What individual brilliance! Carreras converts and the Pumas lead again!

7' AUS 7 ARG 3 Wallabies reclaim the restart and are on the attack quickly and Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii barges over to score! Amazing try! The hosts have the lead, as Edmed steps up and nails from out wide.

5' AUS 0 ARG 3 Pumas attack with an advantage for Wallabies off their feet in the ruck. They play side to side but it breaks down, and we already have push and shove, Carreras points to the sticks, and nails it. Pumas lead early.

T-MINUS 10: The teams are off the field, the prep is done. Both teams form a tight unit, moving in close. There is a lot of energy in the air. The teams are getting read out, as the final gaps fill the stadium and we prepare for the teams to come out. The Welcome to Country receives an enthusiastic cheers from the locals.

T-MINUS 45: The toss has happened, and the Pumas come up with the win. They will receive the kick-off, like in Townsville. The Wallabies are already out and commencing preparations, but the visitors are close behind.

T-MINUS 60: The green and gold have come out in force today, with the Entertainment Quarter and fans coming in early to the stadium. Lot's of gold already showing, but plenty of Pumas jerseys out as well. Both sides have just arrived in the building, with no late scratches to either outfit.
