AS IT HAPPENED: The British & Irish Lions have drawn first blood in the three match series against the Wallabies - though the hosts game back late going into the final quarter.
The Lions dominated much of the early context, taking a 17-5 lead going into halftime, continuing their Queensland dominance after riding in on a high sweeping through the tour matches.

However, the Wallabies came back in the second half, with tries to Carlo Tizzano and Tate McDermott after sustained pressure on the Lions.
While there is confidence to be taken from the performance, the Lions exposed the hosts in several key areas - which sees the second match see the Wallabies needing to win to keep the series alive.

69' AUS 12 BIL 24 Advantage to the Wallabies and they try a cross kick - and now the bounce is unfavourable to Jorgensen! Donaldson to the corner. They go to the maul, and then the big lads. Phase after phase - and finally Tizzano scores after just coming on. Donaldson converts.
65' AUS 5 BIL 24 Penalty awarded to the Lions for collapsing the maul, they botch the lineout, the Wallabies go quickly, and Potter nearly scores - if not for an unfortunate bounce! Scrum to the Lions - and they win and clear.

54' AUS 5 BIL 24 Knock on to the Wallabies after a good passage of play. However, they earn a scrum penalty for the Lions hinging. Lynagh goes to the corner. They try and move but it's not coming out of the ruck, scrum to the Lions. They win and clear.

43' AUS 5 BIL 24 Lions clear after a few phases and the Wallabies have a chance to go on the attack - but they botch it terribly and the Lions capitalise with a long range effort. Nightmare start for Joe Schmidt's men. Sheehan comes up with the try, and Russell converts. Chessum comes on.
40' AUS 5 BIL 17 The ref blows the whistle and we're back underway for the second half.

39' AUS 5 BIL 17 Lions manage to regather the ball, but the Wallabies turn over and try to kick long. Kicking battle ensues, with Wright prevailing. Lineout to the Lions in their own territory as we head into the last minute.
37' AUS 5 BIL 17 Lions try to go around the corner, but the Wallabies hold them out… but it's another offside penalty. They tap and go - and on the third try, Tom Curry gets it down! Russell converts.
35' AUS 5 BIL 10 Wallabies clear off the restart but the Lions make a good passage of attack and go into the 22. Russell attempts a cross kick, but McCarthy knocks it on in goal. Goal line dropout to the Wallabies. Conan runs it back into traffic - Lions attack again on the 5m line and penalty for offside. They go to the corner.
30' AUS 5 BIL 10 Jorgo scores! Regathers the kick ahead and scores! The Wallabies strike back! Lynagh misses but the hosts are on the board.
28' AUS 0 BIL 10 Lions pinch the ball, go quickly and look dangerous - but knock it on. We have a bit of push and shove though, and O'Keefe is having none of it. Scrum to the Wallabies. Scrum penalty to the Wallabies for hinging at the scrum. Lynagh kicks into enemy territory. Wallabies win the lineout and go on the attack.
26' AUS 0 BIL 10 Wallabies try to kick it long - but it's too long by an inch. Back for a Lions scrum in Wallaby territory. Lions try to go around the corner but kick it out on the full. Wallabies win the lineout, go a great bomb - and turn it over in Lions territory. The Lions regather, but they kick it out on the full again!
22' AUS 0 BIL 10 The Lions break down the left flank and Lowe looks to have scored… but they're going upstairs to check if he released the ball. Try is disallowed! The Wallabies survive and the Lions fans are furious! Lynagh clears to the 22. They go to the maul but the Lions collapse it, and concede another penalty. Lynagh clears to halfway but the Lions pinch it back.
19' AUS 0 BIL 10 A good scrum and move from the Wallabies, and Lowe knocks it on cold under pressure. Scrum to the Wallabies in enemy territory. They win and go on the attack on the 22 - a couple of phases, but the Lions hold firm and turn it over and kick it long.
15' AUS 0 BIL 10 Wallabies go to the air and Freeman reclaims it, and they drill it into Potters corner, lineout to the Wallabies. Wallabies win it and clear it to halfway. The Lions win, attack, but knock it on off the high ball. No scrum again, Wallabies get the short arm and they kick it high. Lions attempt to go long, but it's too long. Scrum to the Wallabies on halfway.
10' AUS 0 BIL 10 Lions keep attack, earn an advantage, and Tuipulotu scores! Russell converts, and the visitors go further ahead.
8' AUS 0 BIL 3 Lions attack, and McReight does brilliantly, penalty against the Lions for holding on. They nearly link up off the lineout but Ikitau knocks it on, scrum to the Lions. Short arm, and the Lions go quick.
5' AUS 0 BIL 3 Wallabies restart well, and are asking questions quickly, with Wilson and Lynagh making line breaks. After a kicking battle the Lions get a 50/22, try to taking it quickly, and are bundled into touch. But the ref called it out originally, Lions lineout.
2' AUS 0 BIL 3 CDC takes the kick off well, but the Wallabies concede a penalty for not releasing. Lions point to the sticks immediately. Russell takes it well and the visitors lead early.
KO T-MIN 2: The teams are out, the Australian anthem is sung loudly, it is loud at Suncorp. We are ready to roll
KO T-MIN 5: Every seat is full in the house, and are getting treated to a special lights show. The stage is set, the Lions fans are chanting, and the teams come out to a massive roar!
KO T-MIN 10: Welcome to Country receives a warm response, and the teams are getting read out - and every single player is getting a huge shout from both sides. Lots of love for McReight, Wilson, Suaalii Itoje and Russell, with Tom Lynagh getting an especially big cheer.
KO T-MIN 15: The Wallabies are off first and are not messing around, the Lions a few minutes behind them. The Lions roar has wrung across the stadium. Chills.
KO T-MIN 20: The Proclaimers has got the visitors up and singing, with Men at Work is getting the locals singing. Twenty minutes to kick-off.
KO T-MIN 30: Both sides are in the midst of their warm up. Gaps are filling up quickly in the crowd, fans are still streaming in. Suncorp Stadium is looking a red and gold picture, and there is a real buzz in the air!
KO T-MIN 40: The red wave has taken over Suncorp Stadium as the Lions fans fill the ground. There are pockets of gold around the stadium but it's clear the visitors will have the majority of the support.
KO T-MIN 60: We've just had the toss… Lions have won the toss and have chosen to kick off with the Wallabies running left to right. Players from both sides are starting to head out to the ground as they go through their paces.
KO T-MIN 80: The Wallabies are in the building, and have confirmed no changes to their side for tonight's clash. The crowd is building nicely, with a lot of red on the southern stand. Current conditions here are perfect for rugby: clear skies, not a gust of wind in sight, and a lovely temperature for a Brisbane winter evening.
