With the first Irish Test match kicking off in just 84 sleeps, two Australian icons have come together to undertake extensive sleep research with the Qantas Wallabies.

Online furniture retailer Koala has partnered with the team to help them achieve the perfect nights’ sleep before taking to the field. It follows recent studies that a good nights’ sleep can enhance an athletes’ performance 8 to 20 percent as well as increase their reaction time and speed.

The three-year partnership will allow Wallabies Sports Scientists to monitor the athletes’ sleeping patterns using special wrist bands based on twenty-five years of military research.

Qantas Wallabies Sports Scientist Liz Marin said: “We can now track how many times a player wakes up, how long it takes them to fall asleep or how well they’re recovering since their last game. It then gives us a better understanding of what each player needs to help them perform at their best.

‘’We will also conduct research around managing the effects of international travel to ensure the Qantas Wallabies are restored and ready for the 2019 World Cup.’’

The ink is also drying on a deal where Koala is set to become the official bed supplier of the Qantas Wallabies.

Co-founder Dany Milham said: “At Koala we understand better than most the link between good sleep and helping people perform at their best.

‘’As few as 17 percent of Australians wake up well rested and we’re excited to work with the Qantas Wallabies to help raise awareness about the importance good rest plays in making the most out of every day.’’

Koala launched in 2015 and is now the highest-rated bed-in-a-box mattress retailer in the country. Their mattress combines world-class foams with anti-disturbance technology which has been engineered to help everyone fall asleep faster, stay asleep longer and wake feeling refreshed.

To celebrate the partnership Koala is offering all Rugby fans $150 off their sought-after mattress.

Rugby fans can also test out Koala’s mattresses at the upcoming Irish Test matches in Brisbane on June 9, Melbourne on June 16 and Sydney on June 23.
