The All Blacks will retain the Bledisloe Cup for another year after a 33-24 win over the Wallabies.

Scrumhalf Cam Roigard proved the difference on his return from injury, scoring two tries and setting up another.

The Wallabies produced their trademark fight, twice coming back to bring the margin within three points.

This included overcoming an early 17-point deficit to trail 20-17 at half time, and closing the gap again to 26-24 with 11 minutes remaining.

However, Roigard’s second put the dagger into Australia's hearts after a wave of penalties.

The result pushes New Zealand's unbeaten record at Eden Park to 52 games and wraps up the series before next week's second Test in Perth.

The tempo was set early for the All Blacks at anthem time with Caleb Clarke in tears as dad and former All Black Eroni delivered a powerful anthem.

He channelled the energy into the opening try, proving too powerful to stop from close.

It set up a dominant opening quarter for the hosts, with a lone James O’Connor penalty the only source of comfort for the Wallabies as their struggles with discipline and the high ball persisted.

The return of Roigard provided the spark as the scrumhalf peppered the Australian line.

He set up Leroy Carter to crash over before going himself shortly afterwards for a 20-3 lead after 22 minutes.

Both teams lost key playmakers early, with Tate McDermott (hamstring) and Beauden Barrett (shoulder) leaving the field.

The Wallabies weathered the storm and suddenly found themselves back in the contest.

Billy Pollard reduced the margin for the visitors, with a strong maul and Len Ikitau carry, clearing the space for the hooker to touch down next to the posts.

Ikitau then set up Harry Potter to run a magic line and the margin to reduced to three right before the break.

However, ill-discipline proved the Wallabies' Achilles Heel, whether it was penalties or an inability to nail their touch-finding kicks, and handed momentum back to the All Blacks.

They twice missed touch through the game and put a kick out on the full, while being on the end of 11 of the last 12 penalties.

This allowed Damian McKenzie to kick back-to-back penalties and extend the lead out past a converted try.

But the Wallabies have built their DNA on never giving up and gave themselves a chance late through a powerful rolling maul that ended with Carlo Tizzano over the line.

Ultimately, one too many penalties cost them as Harry Potter went to the bin for repeated infringement with nine minutes remaining.

It allowed the All Blacks to quell the comeback as Rogiard’s second sealed the win and the Bledisloe Cup.

All Blacks 33 (Roigard 2, Clarke, Carter tries; B. Barrett, McKenzie cons; McKenzie 2, B.Barrett pens) def Wallabies 24 (Pollard, Potter, Tizzano tries; O'Connor 3; O'Connor pen)
