Rugby Australia and the ACT Brumbies are pleased to confirm Lachlan Lonergan has re-signed for a further two years, becoming the latest Wallaby to recommit to Australian Rugby until at least the home Rugby World Cup in 2027.

Born and raised in the nation’s capital, the dynamic hooker came through the Canberra and Australian Rugby pathways, starting in the 2019 side that fell short in the U20 World Championship Final against France in Argentina.

The now 25-year-old made his Super Rugby Pacific debut in 2020 against the Chiefs in Hamilton and has since gone on to represent his boyhood club on 52 occasions.

His strong form for the Brumbies resulted in him earning a call-up to the national squad in 2021, named to make his debut in the first Test against France, where he became Wallaby number 942.

Over the next two seasons he made a total of eight appearances in the gold jersey and famously scored the winning try in the Wallabies come from behind 39-34 victory over Wales in their final Test of 2022.

His 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season was cut short after suffering a nasty ankle injury against the Reds in March, before making his return to the field in Australia XV’s match against the Bristol Bears in November last year.

He’s made a strong start to the 2025 season, playing in all bar one of the ACT Brumbies matches so far in their Super Rugby Pacific campaign.

Wallaby number 942 and ACT Brumbies hooker, Lachlan Lonergan said: “I’m stoked to be remaining in Canberra for two more years, a place where I grew up and love representing as a Brumby.”

“I’m really motivated to continue to work hard on the field and earn more opportunities to represent my club, and hopefully my country, with some major milestones on the horizon in Australian Rugby.”

Rugby Australia’s Director of High-Performance, Peter Horne said: “Lachlan’s a strong example of the Australian and Canberra pathways and his re-signing is a positive for supporters of Australian Rugby.

“It’s been pleasing to see him getting consistent game time after recovering from a significant injury last year and we look forward to seeing him continue to build throughout the Super Rugby Pacific season.”

ACT Brumbies CEO Phil Thomson said: “We’re really pleased to see Lachlan extend his contract for another two years, not long after reaching 50 caps for the Brumbies.

“He has become an extremely important part of the team here and has developed into an impressive player, with a solid set-piece and terrific carrying abilities.

“We’re always delighted to see Canberra locals come through the pathway system and develop into top-class, professional rugby players, as Lachlan (and his brother Ryan) has done. We’re looking forward to seeing him continue to give his all in the Brumbies colours.”
