Wallabies officials confirmed on Friday the lock has a tight calf, with Skelton missing from the captain’s run and team photo.

The side reaffirmed they would give him every opportunity to prove his fitness, only for the lock to run out of time.

He was spotted with his ankle heavily tapped as he arrived at the stadium, pushing to be right for next week's match with Wales.

Richie Arnold will start in his place, with Matt Philip coming onto the bench.

Hooker Dave Porecki becomes the 88th Wallabies captain and the sixth used in 2023 by Eddie Jones.

The Wallabies are already without prop Taniela Tupou, who has ruled out with a calf injury.

Tupou had only just returned from a rib complaint, replaced by the returning James Slipper.

Pone Fa’amausili remains on the sidelines, with Tate McDermott set to return next week against Wales after a concussion

Jones confirmed after the match he will not play against Wales, refusing to rule him out for the rest of the tournament.
