Wallabies players were on hand to launch the new jerseys for 2022 in front of some excited pupils at St John's.

With Super Rugby Pacific entering the semi-finals, the attention and hype towards a highly-anticipated series with England in July builds.

There have been plenty of players that have used the competition to press their claims for higher honours, rewarded with selection in Dave Rennie's first training squad of 2022 back in April.

Along with this, several stars have pressed their claim for a recall, peaking at the right time with finals and a stacked calendar on the horizon.

With this in mind, Rugby.com.au breaks down the options ahead of England, looking at the halves.

In the Squad - Players selected in the first squad of 2022

Ben Donaldson

Donaldson was one of the form players of the first half of Super Rugby Pacific, leading to his maiden call-up in April.

Injury hit at the worst time for the playmaker, seeing the 23-year-old moved to fullback and the bench as a result of Tane Edmed's rise.

However, Donaldson has shown his class since returning and provides key versatility with the flyhalf and fullback positions up for grabs.

Jake Gordon

Gordon continues to shine for the Waratahs, leading them to the finals.

The scrumhalf was electric to finish the season, producing a series of incredible performances against the Kiwi sides.

Gordon has not featured in gold since the Bledisloe Cup and has done his chances little harm, pushing the incumbents for a spot in the 23.

Noah Lolesio

The development of Noah Lolesio goes from strength to strength after guiding the Brumbies to the final four.

His influence was felt immediately on return as he produced a match-winning performance against the Highlanders, setting their season on the perfect track.

Lolesio looms as one of the key pieces for the future and could find himself opposite fellow young gun Marcus Smith come July 2.

Ryan Lonergan

Ryan Lonergan has stepped up as one of the key finishers for the Brumbies.

Deputising Nic White, Lonergan's injection off the bench has been game-changing on a number of occasions, playing a pivotal role in their quarter-final win over the Hurricanes.

Whilst he has started just three games in 2022, Lonergan's impact when he has come on could be enough to see him selected once again.

Tate McDermott

McDermott has furthered his claims as one of the best scrum halves in the country.

The Reds co-captain has been one of their best since Super Round and has found a new level of consistency in 2022.

The 23-year-old was largely used off the bench by Rennie and will be hoping to establish himself as a consistent starter heading forward.

James O’Connor

O'Connor will be pushing to be fit for the first Test against England after suffering a hamstring injury.

The Reds playmaker had only just returned from a knee injury and his leadership and playmaking abilities were sorely missed as the Queensland-based side slumped out of the finals.

O'Connor stepped into the starting role at the back end of the season and will be hoping he is fit enough for selection come July.

Nic White

White remains one of the key pieces in a dominant season for the Brumbies.

The scrumhalf was elevated to captain with Allan Alaalatoa out injured and has been one of the form players of the competition after Super Round.

He will likely battle McDermott and Gordon for the starting spot but will have the perfect chance to stake his claims against the Blues on Saturday.

Quade Cooper

Cooper will be looking to continue his remarkable Wallabies revival in 2022.

He misses the end of 2021 and the first camp of the year whilst on club duty in Japan, helping Kintetsu Liners gain promotion.

Given his incredible Rugby Championship, he looms as one of the favourites to be called upon by Rennie as one of the three International selections.

Tane Edmed

Edmed has been the revelation of the season after starring for the Waratahs.

Injuries to Donaldson and Will Harrison opened the door for Edmed, taking his chance with both hands as he guided the team to wins over the Crusaders and Highlanders.

Whilst it is likely a year or two early, Edmed all of a sudden looms as a player to watch for the future.

Issak Fines-Leleiwasa

Fines-Leleiwasa has impressed for the Force since making the move west.

The former Brumby has provided a point of difference with his pace and delivery, finding himself as the starter following Super Round.

Injury derailed his season, with the 26-year-old primed to push his fellow halves for years to come.

Carter Gordon

Gordon finished the Super season with a bang, returning to his Trans-Tasman form for the Rebels.

Initially featuring largely from the bench, Gordon stepped into the starting role from round 11 and looked comfortable in a Rebels pack that struggled to match it with their Kiwi opposition.

Another prospect for the future, however, the Rebels playmaker looms as a perfect candidate for Australia A with some strong performances there able to rocket him up the depth chart.

Reesjan Pasitoa

Pasitoa slowly found his early-season form for the Force as his Wallabies aspirations gain momentum.

He was positioned as a bolter at the start of the season but the Force's struggles saw the 20-year-old fall off the radar.

Likewise with Gordon, Pasitoa should feature in some capacity for Australia A and will hopefully gain some much-needed experience.
